The Shoulders of Giants (TSoG) is a nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organization dedicated to sharing the thrill of scientific discovery. Since 2013, The Shoulders of Giants' top priority has been to provide access to world-class STEM opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds.

People of all ages can access our live streams, video series, and curriculum content. Our Discord community is open to all students over the age of 13, including adult learners, educators, and professionals dedicated to lifelong learning.

Our challenges are currently aimed toward students between the ages of 13-18. Through this program, students can earn points for completing science, engineering, and math-related challenges, and can either redeem those points for educational materials or donate them for volunteer hours.

All of our content - including video content, community access, and curriculum - is offered online for free. Lessons may require equipment and materials to make the most of, but these are available from a variety of third parties, and these costs may be deferred through our rewards system (coming soon).

If you can afford it and would like to help keep this program free, please consider becoming a patron or making a one-time donation.

Complete and submit the application form. Anyone may apply, but applicants with well-formed educational goals are more likely to be accepted quickly. At the end of the day, we are here to make the most effective use of your time and our available resources as we help you reach your goals; being clear about your goals helps us achieve that. is a streaming and video platform created by The Shoulders of Giants. Through live video content across multiple channels, students have the opportunity to interact with technical professionals and content creators by watching their process, asking questions, and collaborating on projects.

Our weekly schedule for each channel is conveniently located on the Live page below the channel description (may not be view able on all mobile browsers). You can also view our full Calendar for all channels; that page also contains instructions on how to add that calendar to your own for your convenience.

We offer small in-person outreach events in communities with a high-density of TSoG activity (such as the Dallas, TX area). These events are announced in advance for all Patrons on Patreon, which you can join for as little as $2 / month.

We also offer larger in-person events such as the Summer Biomedical Engineering Experience through select program partners.

Our courses and curriculum resources are available for anyone to utilize in whatever way suits them best. Students can complete courses from start to finish, or they can pick and choose the resources and activities that interest them. We are here to help you reach your educational goals, and recognize that everyone learns in their own way.

Anyone may complete our daily, weekly, and monthly challenges, but only students between the ages of 13 and 18 may submit these challenges for points. Because submissions are reviewed manually, we want to make sure we are using our human resources effectively to serve the audience that can benefit from the rewards system directly, and we ask that you understand and respect this decision.

If you are not eligible to formally submit challenges, but would still like to have your work reviewed, we encourage you to post a public repository to Discord for community review and feedback.

The Shoulders of Giants tracks the achievements of our students and maintains records which students can list on their résumés. Students can, and have, successfully applied for official credit through their schools for work they have completed with The Shoulders of Giants, but we leave this up to the initiative of our students and the discretion of their teachers and school administrators.

All of our content is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license unless otherwise stated. This means that you can use and adapt these resources for any purpose, but must a) provide appropriate credit to The Shoulders of Giants, Inc. and indicate if changes were made to the source, and b) maintain the same open-source license on your work.

We strongly recommend hosting your coursework on a public repository such as GitHub where others can benefit from the additions and modifications you have made.
